NEW DELHI: India opener Shikhar Dhawan might lead Team India at the Asian Games 2023. Former Indian batter VVS Laxman is also being considered as a potential head coach for the tournament. However, the final decision on these appointments is yet to be confirmed, as per BCCI sources.
For the first time, the BCCI has agreed to send both the men’s and women’s teams to participate in the Asian Games 2023, which is scheduled to take place in China.
It is important to note that the Asian Games do not fall under the purview of the International Cricket Council (ICC) and will not be recognised as official events in international cricket.
There is a potential scheduling clash as the Asian Games may coincide with other cricket events like the Asia Cup and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup.
The Men’s Cricket World Cup is set to be hosted by India from October 5 to November 23, while the Asian Games are scheduled in Hangzhou, China, from September 23 to October 8.
On the other hand, apart from their domestic cricket commitments, the India Women’s Cricket Team currently has no other engagements in September. The team had previously participated in the Commonwealth Games 2022 held in Birmingham.
