Mahindra and Mahindra is gearing up to set up a brand new manufacturing, development and testing facility for its upcoming range of electric SUVs in Maharashtra’s Pune. Earlier in August 2022, the automaker announced its range of XUV. And BE electric SUVs under its Born Electric vision. The new SUVs will be built on the company’s EV-dedicated INGLO platform and the first of the all-new SUVs is expected to arrive as soon as 2024.

Mahindra has announced that it will be investing Rs 10,000 crore to build the EV manufacturing facility in Pune and that the plan has been approved by the Maharashtra Government under the industrial promotion scheme for EVs. The manufacturing plant will be completely set up in the next 7 to 8 years.
Speaking on the development, Rajesh Jejurikar, Executive Director, Auto & Farm Sectors, Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., said, “We are delighted with this approval from the government of Maharashtra for setting up our EV Manufacturing Plant in Pune and investing in what has been our ‘home’ state for over 70 years. The Government’s focus on ‘ease-of-doing-business’ and progressive policies, together with Mahindra’s investment, will act as a catalyst for Maharashtra to become India’s EV hub, attracting further Indian and Foreign Direct Investment.”

The Born Electric SUVs by Mahindra will feature five models, the XUV.e8 and XUV.e9 are expected to arrive in the initial phase before the all-new BE.05, BE.07 and BE.09 come closer to production. The SUVs have been designed at the Mahindra Advanced Design Europe (MADE) facility in Oxfordshire, United Kingdom, under the leadership of Chief Designer, Pratap Bose.
