Delhi has been plunged into chaos following the arrest of Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on March 21. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) stated that Kejriwal was apprehended after ignoring nine summons from the investigating agency. Just hours before his arrest, the High Court had declined to provide protection to Kejriwal against the ED’s actions. This development has left the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in apprehension about how Kejriwal will manage the capital from prison. Notably, Kejriwal is the second opposition CM arrested by the ED in less than two months, following Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren’s arrest in January 2024. The tense situation has led to heightened security near BJP headquarters amid AAP’s nationwide protest call, with increased personnel deployment, multi-layer barricading, and paramilitary forces equipped in anti-riot gear.
